Before tomorrows game...

We had a few bad breaks early on the last time we played up in Burlington, I think this time we'll have a much better game! Still tough competition, but our play last week was quite encouraging, and hopefully we can continue moving forward!

First, Devin sent me a link everyone would enjoy, a six year old being scouted by the top teams in football. Kid has some skills! There is a key sentence in the story, something he does to increase his skills... First comment that gets it right wins something (maybe a Throwball sticker?)

And, for your viewing pleasure, A History of Bicycle Kicks in the MLS. Enjoy!

The score doesn't tell the tale...

I hope everyone can see the positives from tonights loss... In addition to staying competitive for 65 minutes while missing several people, it was a serious step up compared to our match in LPTs.

And while we had some breakdowns, I see so much progress by the boys, I'm quite happy with the game, if not quite so much with the result.

Anyways, have a great couple of days off, and please leave some comments, so I know someone is actually reading this! Below I've attached a cool street football video, not only is this guy good, but he's videoed himself doing it as well. Enjoy!

Highlights of US MNT vs Mexico

If you didn't catch the game, here are the highlights. It was apparently raining heavily before the game, and while conditions didn't appear to be too bad during the game, it looked like everyone was moving quite slow. Very little change in pace, especially on the last goal, Donovan looked like he was tiptoeing around the pitch.

But a good win for the US nevertheless.

Funny Celebrations

Seen these recently, thought it'd be fun to share...

I always wondered what would happen if someone tried to slide on their knees on one of our pitches...

Table Soccer (Subbuteo) - Shameless plug

For those that aren't familiar with it, Subbuteo is a table football game kids (and adults) have played (mostly in Europe) for years. I played as a kid, and Cameron and I play. It is limited to small clubs in the US, many on the East Coast. Check out some of the links here.

Table Soccer USA
American Subbuteo Association
St. Louis Subbuteo (one of the best and most organized clubs around)
Peter Upton's Subbuteo site (great look at the game from a collector standpoint)
Subbuteo Artist dot com (see how people have immortalized their favorite teams)
New -> SuperFooty North American Distributor - This is a good starter game, and I think since the boxes are on back order you can get a better deal on shipping.

There are hundreds of pages out there, just google subbuteo.

If anyone is interested, please talk to Matt. I think it would be great to have more people to play with and maybe even start a league.

<\end shameless plug>

Great Game on Saturday!

Just to let everyone know I'm super proud of everones performance on Saturday. Legacy is a quality team, and while we may have had a bit of luck, our team played as well as I've seen them play in a while. Hopefully this is the shape of things to come in the future of our short spring league!

Thought I'd post another video...Finishing drills from the US Men's National Team.

Lots of interesting training videos, check out their Youtube site at http://www.youtube.com/user/ussoccerdotcom

Welcome!

As I surf the web, I find some really cool stuff related to football. Some of it I can even share with the kids!

So I started this for our team. It might be articles or videos, or whatever I think the boys might like, or find interesting or informative.

We can put team news and such here as needed. Let's see where we can take this.

I encourage the boys to check back with this often.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me here, or just talk to me at practice.

This is one of the first things I came across. Top goals in Serie A last weekend.

And the second is just cool, if not exactly football ... puts our MUFF contest to shame! Chinlone is the traditional sport of Myanmar (Burma). Chinlone is a combination of sport and dance, a team sport with no opposing team. In essence chinlone is non-competitive, yet it's as demanding as the most competitive ball games. The focus is not on winning or losing, but how beautifully one plays the game.

The ball is made of cane.

Myanmar also play competitive Chinlone (with net) similar to Sepak Takraw.
